I take pride in knowing that God puts me in situations not to better myself, but to benefit others. We were all handpicked for the lives we live, and so it is my daily motivation.

“the original hobe. a classic, simply designed, well cut shoe. the hobe is utility, comfort, luxury and simplicity. one fit, happy tootsies and endless miles.” – (Hobes.com.au)

Seriously, I find it extremely hard not to spot a bloke or woman within the  Melbourne and Adelaide CBD that is not sporting a pair of Hobes.  A unisex body, available in a canvas (or suede) upper, and just a distinctiveness that is sure to set it apart from the footwear others are sporting within immediate surroundings.

During my travels through South Australia I’ve come across a line of handmade jewellery, Urban Turtle, that I’ve found unique and a bit nostalgic of the nights my mother would ask me if her necklace went with her shoes before a big night out; I reckon she needed a man’s seal of approval.  Urban Turtle with their excellent arrangement of colors and shapes brings me back to the African jewellery most women in my family adorn; it’s a real treat to find this style of neckwear making its way in the land down under.

Although the originator, Ellenor “Ziggy” Day, calls the outback of Broken Hill, NSW her hometown, her jewellery speaks of her desert shrubs and red dirt landscapes that span for as far as the eye can see.  Ellenor’s handmade works of art not only embody the majesty of Australia’s beautiful outback, but can deliver with style capturing an urban essence.

Urban Turtle’s focus will always be on neckwear, but also offers an assortment of ready made accessories such as clutch bags and belts hand picked to compliment Ellenor’s designs.

Keeping in tune with our ever changing environment Urban Turtle has established the junk2funk program whereby anyone with old, forgotten pieces of jewellery can make a donation to Ellenor; giving her the chance to breath life into new works of handmade art.  You can find more information about the program here.

Ellenor’s fine neckwear is available from Western Australia to Vancouver, Canada so fear not US, for Urban turtle is ready for overseas delivery.  You can purchase and continue to browse more of Urban Turtle at www.UrbanTurtle.com.au .

Yes, that is correct; you are witnessing the future of fashion combined with technology and the touch only Francesca Castagnacci can deliver.

I’m sure anyone who has lived with Cablevision or Verizon FiOS have an idea what fiber-optics can do for your entertainment needs.  Well, if you don’t have a clue imagine this;  an extremely thin piece of plastic  or glass with the capability to transmit pulses of light from one end of the fiber to the other at incredible speeds (hope I didn’t lose you there).  Not only can fiber-optic strands transmit light, but they have the flexibility to be manipulated into what you see above – work of art.

Sorry ladies,  I have not a clue on where to purchase these year 2099 heels, but they are a thing of beauty to watch for fashionistas and geekss alike.

I have to admit I’m a massive fan of functional art and when it comes to the home I’m all about making my surroundings pleasing to the eye with an extra something to contribute to my lifestyle.  The Zaishu (origins from a Japanese word for table without legs) delivers with the spirit of an artisan.

Now this is what  grandparents would love to see their grandchildren looking dapper in.  Lets give the Jordans a break with the little ones for awhile and kick it up a notch. Lets instill in our youth a sense of class and to think outside of the box for once.   Instead, try thinking of Castlebox Melbourne.

Modern, stylish, portable, and it even produces quality sound from a Sony Walkman (circa 1990s mind you)!  I would like to present to you the Speakr Box.  No batteries needed, Australian Hoop Pine ply wood box, 2 watt stereo speaker, and equipped with a 3.55mm headphone jack.

I came across this little guy at the Melbourne Design Market this past weekend and I have to admit the simplicity in design just grabbed my attention.  I was able to compare sound quality from a variety of audio players; to include, but not limited to iPod/Phone, Walkman (yes, the one that plays something called a tape), CD player, and I happen to have an iriver on me which performed quite well.

At 85mm x 170mm x 65mm (3.3in x 6.7in x 2.5in) you really can’t go wrong fitting this bit of boom on a bookshelf, office desktop, or if you’re looking to get creative keep it hidden to create that ambiance for say……swooning a date, maybe?  Ok, I suppose you can create that rain forest atmosphere for those tranquil listeners out there, too.  Whatever your listening needs are, I would definitely give the Speakr Box a go.

The only thing I will admit that has me down about the Speakr Box is the fact that it clearly states “shipping within Australia only” under the buy tab on their site.  Yeah, I know, you were waiting to find out where to purchase this piece of audio art, and at $59.99 AUD (approx. $54.00 USD) I would say this is quite affordable when compared to other wood enclosed mini speakers on the market.

Overall this is a great “Speakr Box” for you audiophiles to check out as well aesthetically pleasing to the home and office design addicts out there.  I’ll be sure to keep you posted if any changes with the shipping limitations occur, but if you really are interested in purchasing I wouldn’t mind shipping this out to my US bretheren.  If you have any other recommendations for speakers in the same class please leave a comment below to share you thoughts with us.
